Jewelry Etiquette
In the past we have already discussed the importance of wearing the right jewel at the right time, but how many of us knew that there is a real Jewelry Etiquette ? Today we discover together 5 important etiquette tips (and a couple of curiosities!)
Exaggeration abolished
A concept already discussed, but to be reiterated: when wearing jewelry, simplicity always wins! It is better to avoid combining too flashy jewelry. Also pay attention to the outfit: a dress full of details requires a few jewelry pieces in a minimal style. Also be careful with rings: too much is too much! Wear a few, but good ones!
Men's Jewelry
Etiquette dictates that a man should only wear one ring (the wedding ring!) and a watch . Of course, we know very well that bracelets and necklaces with a masculine cut give a touch more to the man who loves to stand out. So other jewelry is welcome, but not too flashy! Did you know that etiquette prohibits rings (except, of course, the wedding ring) for men? Don't worry: on less formal occasions, we can ignore it...
Never give pins as gifts
Although they are an accessory that can make any outfit charming, etiquette does not allow brooches to be given as gifts! This is because their needle could prick the recipient of the gift and, according to superstition, this would mean a wish for pain .
Day and evening jewelry
Just as no one would wear a sequined dress in the middle of the morning, there are also well-defined style rules for jewelry!
During the day , green light is given to gold and pearls, but also to clear gems such as aquamarine and jade, even in rings.
In the evening , more discreet and precious jewels are better, with dark and intense gems , such as emeralds and sapphires.
Diamonds are perfect at both times of the day!
Engagement ring and wedding ring
Matching these two rings with such a personal value is not impossible: etiquette advises us to wear them both on the left ring finger . First the engagement ring, then the wedding ring. However, nothing prevents us from wearing the engagement ring on the ring finger of the right hand, especially if it is made of a different material than the wedding ring.
Curiosity
Today, etiquette is much more flexible and accessible to everyone, but did you know that in the past it was not allowed to wear diamonds before turning 40 ? Pearls, moreover, were only allowed with elegant clothes, while today we can afford to wear them with all outfits.
These were the most important rules of jewelry etiquette. Did you already know them?
We'll see you here again, very soon, with lots of new interesting guides!
