Rolex is the new Official Timekeeper of the US Open
The United States Tennis Association (USTA) has announced that Rolex has become an official sponsor of the US Open and will serve as the official timekeeper and official watch of the event.
The multi-year agreement began with the kickoff of the 2018 US Open, which took place from August 27 to September 9 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, New York.
The 2018 US Open marks the 50th anniversary of the event and is also the first to be held at the $600 million-renovated National Tennis Center. This will also be the inaugural season of the new Louis Armstrong Stadium, a 14,000-seat facility that is the latest expansion of the entire complex.
Rolex watches will appear throughout the Billie Jean King Center courts during the event.
The official clock positioned outside Arthur Ashe Stadium will also be a Rolex display.
Rolex will also be present at the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati as a sponsor of all Masters Series events; it will also support the USTA National Campus for tennis-related activities and programs based in Orlando, Florida and also the initiatives of the USTA Foundation that assists underserved youth.
For 40 years, Rolex has sponsored a variety of tennis events including the Australian Open at Wimbledon, the Davis Cup and Laver Cup men's team tournaments, the BNP Paribas Open, the Miami Open, the Rogers Cup and more.
Rolex has replaced Citizen, which had been a sponsor of the US Open for more than two decades.
Citizen, through a spokesperson, did not specify the reasons for the end of the partnership. It noted that the brand “looks forward to focusing its efforts on the new collaboration with Disney and Marvel” and that in keeping with its passion for tennis, it will remain the official timekeeper for select US Open tournaments, including the BB&T Atlanta Open, the Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic, the Winston-Salem Open and the Connecticut Open.
