March 14, 2017 - TAG Heuer announces that it has certified 1,000 Tourbillon Heuer-02T movements by the independent Swiss chronometer certification body (COSC).
These 1,000 pieces were produced and assembled by the TAG Heuer Manufacture, at its sites in La Chaux-de-Fonds and Chevenez in Switzerland. From the machining of the plate to the coating, the assembly of the movement, the adjustment and fine adjustment, the casing phases, the functional and aesthetic control, the engraving and the fitting of the bracelet, everything is done in Switzerland, within the TAG Heuer Manufacture.
The news was announced by Jean-Claude Biver, CEO of TAG Heuer and President of the Watch Division of the LVMH group, during the press conference for the new smartwatch in Brunnen, Switzerland.
To celebrate this milestone, which is important for the brand, Jean-Claude Biver has decided to draw the public’s attention by auctioning off the 1,000th COSC-certified tourbillon chronograph on eBay, from March 14 to 29, 2017. The watch will be presented in an exclusive box that will also contain the new TAG Heuer Connected Modular 45 – all with a starting price of 17,900 CHF / 17,000 USD / 16,730€. All proceeds from the sale will go to the Make-A-Wish Switzerland foundation, which grants the wishes of children aged 3 to 18 who are living with a serious illness, in order to restore their strength, hope and joy.
The TAG Heuer Tourbillon Chronograph COSC Heuer-02T movement was entirely designed and developed at TAG Heuer. A skeletonized, low-inertia tourbillon movement made of carbon and titanium (the only one currently on the market), it is made up of 284 components, has a diameter of 31 mm (13 ¾''' lignes), a thickness of 6.9 mm, beats at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations/hour) with a power reserve of 65 hours. The project, developed with the strategic objective of remaining below 15,000 CHF, was launched in 2015. This means that all the teams in the manufacture (engineers, watchmakers, designers, purchasing, production) were involved and participated in this development in order to optimize costs. Finally, thanks to this synergy, the challenge of presenting a finished piece at BaselWorld 2016 was taken up. In the Swiss watchmaking industry, the price of 14,900 CHF is extremely competitive for a Tourbillon watch, in line with Jean-Claude Biver's desire and strategy to make TAG Heuer the leader in accessible luxury.
