How is a ring born?

The first phase

When the request comes from a customer, it is essential to understand his needs and dreams. A jewel can be born from the desire to rediscover a precious item from the past, to which one was attached, or from the need to create something new. Often the customer aims to recreate a family ring , but just as often he comes to Ferro Gioielli to buy a certified diamond or with a precious stone that is the fruit of a special journey , which has remained in the heart, or

The artistic part

In short: everything starts from the client's wishes and, only after having spoken with him (or, more often, with her), we proceed to the hypotheses, through the creation of drawings, renderings or samples, to show how the ring will be. The creative and artistic process collects all the client's needs, but also tries to transform dreams, sensations and emotions into reality.

The creation

From the drawing, then, we get to the actual project, to then begin with the hand-made creation . First, Fabrizio explained to me, the shaft is designed and created and then the setting, that is, the part of the ring that will contain the precious stone (or precious stones!). Only later, the shank will also be created, in the process until the rough finish.
At this point, the craftsman will join the two parts together. But how? With the alloying of gold, which from pure 1000 thousandths must be brought to 750 thousandths (the classic 18kt) with the addition of alloys, that is, metals chosen based on the hardness and color that you want to obtain for the desired jewel.

The finishing

Now comes the most delicate point, where the finishing touches are made, with the removal of burrs, file marks and excess welding. All this is done using files and sandpaper with increasingly finer grains, until the desired finish is achieved, homogeneous and almost silky to the touch.

At this point the jewel goes into the cleaning machine, where, thanks to abrasive brushes and special pastes, the result is a smooth surface finish.

A work of hands and heart

The time has come to manually set the gems in the newly created jewel. A job that requires absolute precision and accuracy , in full respect of the shape and hardness of the stone. In fact, specific techniques will be used based on the stone to be set and the model of the ring.

Now the ring is ready...but not finished!

To be worn, it requires a final polishing step. The ring is in fact polished with brushes and “lipstick”, of a color that can vary based on the composition of the alloy chosen to make the jewel. If there are parts of white gold, the rhodium plating process takes place instead...but we will talk about it in more depth!

After this step, the ring is finally ready, shiny, brilliant and precious in every component. The process of creating a ring on customer request is an adventure in search of the right style and finish to satisfy every desire of the person who will then wear it.
