TagHeuer and Porsche at full speed

2021 has started at full speed for TagHeuer , which recently signed a historic alliance with luxury car manufacturer Porsche.

TagHeuer and Porsche at full speed

That TagHeuer was also a parent company passionate about cars and speed is now well known and confirmed by the collaboration with Steve McQueen since the filming of Le Mans in 1970. A gem that perhaps many had underestimated is that, in that iconic film, the American actor drove a Porsche 917.

A collaboration, therefore, a sign of destiny, which has finally materialized in a true alliance that will see the two luxury brands collaborate both within the panorama of motor racing and in the development of new products.

Common values

If the two maisons were already linked by a bond of strong friendship, from now on the bond will be truly inseparable, thanks to the union of the values that unite these two giants of speed and precision. Authenticity, revolutionary spirit, passion for exciting sporting events, precise objectives and the desire to realize one's dreams.

To celebrate the union of these two iconic brands, a new watch has been launched, the TAG Heuer Carrera Porsche Chronograph. But first, let's take a look at the history of TagHeuer and Porsche.

The stories

For over half a century, the histories of the two parent companies have been intertwined, starting with the analogy that made entrepreneurs Edouard Heuer and Ferdinand Porsche two visionaries whose creations changed their respective sectors forever. Heuer, in fact, created the first manufacture chronograph, while Porsche developed the electric motor on the wheel hub. Both achievements were rewarded at the world fairs in Paris.

First partnerships

The new partnership is also based, however, above all on the descendants of the founding fathers.
Ferdinand Porsche's son, Ferdinand Anton Ernst, joined his father's automotive engineering firm in 1931, where he founded the car brand we all know today and which bears the family name.

Within a few years, Porsche had become the epitome of postal success, taking an outstanding victory in the 1954 Carrera Panamericana. This successful event led to the most powerful engine of the time being named the ' Carrera '.

As for Maison TagHeuer, Edouard Heuer's great-grandson, Jack, created the first Heuer Carrera chronograph in 1963, designed to allow drivers to easily read the time during races. A nod to the famous Porsche engine that, in hindsight, seems like a premonitory sign.
In the 1980s, the brands jointly developed and produced the TAG-Porsche engine that enabled the McLaren team to win three Formula 1 world titles. This was the first real collaboration between the two brands.

TagHeuer and Porsche Create the New Carrera

The choice of the name ' Carrera ' for the chronograph born from the collaboration was natural. Associated with both brands for generations, it fully represents the spirit of the new alliance between the brands and wants to be a tribute to their heritage.

Model and design

The special model is a chronograph with a black ceramic bezel, engraved with the tachometric scale and, in red, the Porsche logo with the characteristic font. Other references recall the imagery of the German car manufacturer, starting with the red, black and grey colours that characterise the model. The automatic Calibre Heuer 02 movement, then, has an oscillating weight that has been designed to recall the classic Porsche steering wheel, highlighted by the sapphire crystal case back, with the words “Porsche” and “TAG Heuer” embossed. The power reserve of this extraordinary timepiece is an impressive 80 hours!

Style details

The dial, which deliberately recalls the asphalt of race tracks, expresses the passion for speed, perfectly expresses the passion for the road, while the Arabic numerals on the dial recall the dashboard of the most luxurious sports cars.
The watch is available with both a soft leather strap and stitching, as well as a more streamlined interlocking bracelet design.

TagHeuer and Porsche at full speed

This important partnership will define new standards in brand integration and represents a true alliance. This deep and lasting collaboration will make competitions and products truly cutting edge. We are sure, this first product will be just the beginning!
