The event, which began in 1917 in a modest corner dedicated to watches and jewelry within the Schweizer Mustermesse Basel (muba) trade fair, now boasts 141,000 square meters of exhibition space after the 2013 renovation. The 2015 edition saw over 1,500 brands on display, bringing together watchmakers, jewelers, diamond, gemstone and pearl dealers, as well as manufacturers of machinery and tools, from every corner of the world. From March 19 to 26, 2015, Baselworld attracted 150,000 visitors, including industry professionals, a 3% decrease compared to the 2014 edition.
